Biography
Michael specialises in insurance and corporate risk management, particularly litigious insurance matters, including occupiers' and product liability, professional indemnity (including insurance brokers and agents, financial advisers, stock brokers, real estate and settlement agents, engineers, architects, accountants and valuers) and employers' liability and recovery claims.
Michael provides insurance policy advice on indemnity issues, including notification, fraud, non-disclosure, waiver of subrogation and cross liability, illegality and partial coverage. He advises corporations and other commercial and other organisations on risk management, including insurance, and on insurance claims. He advises operators in the resources sector on their and their business partners' insurance arrangements, compliance with contractual and other insurance obligations and their rights and obligations concerning contractual indemnities.
He represents parties at mediations, pre-trial hearings and conferences and trial (as solicitor instructing and as counsel).
Michael is a regular speaker for professional organisations such as the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF), the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the Law Society of Western Australia. He is a former Committee Member of the Western Australian branch of the Australian Insurance Law Association (AILA).
Michael is the editor of Minter Ellison's quarterly national insurance law bulletin.
